As a Pumpkin Plan strategist, I advocate focusing your time, energy and services on your top clients; which means weeding out the bad, ok, and mediocre clients. No one wants to say goodbye to revenue, but when we remove the so-so clients, we are actually making room in our lives for future awesome clients.

I can repeat this message over and over, but I have to prove that I follow my own message. So after 7 years of working with a perfectly “good client, I made the move to end my professional service with them. My wallet will miss that check, but my head and my heart knows it is the right move.

Seven years ago this was a dream client! However, years later, my career path was driving me further and further away from the type work I performed for them.

To be honest, I wasn’t able to give them the best of myself, my talents, my time. And they could tell! They knew I was not as attentive and responsive as I used to be. And I felt terrible about it.

Rather than deciding to go backward 7 years, I decided to face my future head on – I told them I would be ending our engagement together. And they were not surprised! They knew my heart was no longer in this line of work.

Spending a big chunk of time on that client work, I took hours away from my newest and best clients. Trying to fulfill an old arrangement, I took energy away from working on my business, visioning and planning. I finally faced that I could not fully realize the potential of Clear Path Strategy LLC if I hung on to this time-intensive client.

They’re good people, but the business direction was clear. And instead of focusing on the “paycheck” I won’t be collecting from them, I’ll be mentally ready to welcome new income sources. It’s an exciting prospect to fill that time with new ideal client work.

  • How many clients do you have right now that are medium to mediocre?
  • Is it possible your “perfectly good” clients can tell you’re not giving them the best of yourself?
  • Can you say goodbye to a “nice but not great” client?

It’s TOUGH! But if I can do it, so can you. If you’d like to chat about your situation, please schedule a free consult here.
